Fishing
Some people consider Bull Shoals Lake the Walleye capital of the south. Lunker Largemouth, Smallmouth and Kentucky Bass also swim the lake's deep clear waters. White Bass, Crappie, Catfish and others are found here as well.

Bull Shoals has extremely clear water, so it is very important to gear yourself properly before you come to fish. This means light to medium action rods. Medium size spinning or bait casting reels . Most important of all, the use of light lines. Fishing line in the 4 to 6 pound test will get you a lot more bites than lines of  of 8 to 10 pound test. Low visibility line in shades of green are the best. Fluorocarbon lines also work very well.

Structure fishing on Bull Shoals Lake becomes a matter off fishing shore line rock formations and types, underwater humps, points, drop offs , creek channels and in high water conditions flooded brush and bushes. Main lake points tend to hold fish all year long making them a good starting place if you are a new comer to the lake.  Walleye, Largemouth, Samllmouth and Kentucky's can be found on main lake points nearly all the time. These will usually be larger fish and will be deeper than on other lakes you may fish.

Their are many types of forage in Bull Shoals. Shad are very abundant in the lake, with Gizzard shad being the most prolific. Even thou there larger  size  does not make them the most desirable in the lake, the multiple spawns each year provides the lake with plenty of smaller shad at these times. Also a very important and plentiful species is the threadfin shad. due to there smaller size they are the favorite of many fish in the lake. Another favorite food source for the game fish in the lake are the abundant crawdads in the lake. Rounding out the forage would be various species of minnows and sunfish.

There are many various techniques that work on Bull Shoals Lake From still and bottom fishing to casting , trolling , fishing night crawllers to bottom bouncers. Casting for the 3 species of bass is the most common, although trolling has accounted for more than its fair share of bass. Walleye can be caught drifting, casting, bottom bouncing and trolling. Due to the lakes depth trolling can be come difficult for many at certain times of the year. At night or in the spring, fish can be caught from the 5 to 18 foot range. During daylight hours things become more difficult for some because most baits made today do not reach much deeper than 17 or 18 foot. The use of lead core lines have greatly increased the fishing opportunity of the deeper fish along with the use of downriggers. These techniques though unique to some are responsible for some of the most memorable fishing to be had on the lake, along with some of the largest fish .
